Decrease Skill Cooldown: what it does and who does it best
A look at how cooldown reduction works, where it pays off in PvE and Arena, and which Champions, sets and habits make the most of it.
·2 min read
Decrease Skill Cooldown helps Champions return to their strongest abilities faster. That means quicker access to damage, buffs, debuffs, heals and revives. Some Champions reduce or reset the whole team, some target one ally, and some affect only themselves. Others reset a skill when a condition is met, such as killing an enemy with it.
Unlike debuffs on enemies, it needs no Accuracy, so it can be useful almost anywhere.
Where it helps
- Wave content: skills are ready again between waves, which makes runs more consistent. It also supports Poison Explosion and Seer-style teams, which need specific abilities ready for each wave.
- Bosses: in Hydra you can bring back Provoke when the Head of Decay respawns, or regain debuffs to control new Heads.
- Arena: cycling your strongest damage, control or defensive skills faster can overwhelm opponents who cannot keep your Champions under control.
Champions worth knowing
- Kymar: resets all ally skill cooldowns and fills their Turn Meters by 20%.
- Yumeko: reduces all ally cooldowns by 3 turns and increases enemy cooldowns by 3 turns with the same ability.
- Godseeker Aniri: her revive returns an ally with 50% HP, 50% Turn Meter and fully reset cooldowns.
- Renegade: reduces all ally cooldowns by 2 turns, handy in progression dungeons for Champions such as Coldheart or Royal Guard.
- Donatello: reduces all ally cooldowns by 2 turns and places Increase SPD, useful for repeating skills from Champions such as Gnut.
- Krixia: her base form increases enemy cooldowns by 3 turns, while her alternate form decreases ally cooldowns by 3 turns.
- Pheidi: reduces all ally cooldowns by 3 turns while placing Increase RES and Perfect Veil.
- Ninja: his A3 reduces the cooldown of Hailburn by 1 turn while ignoring 50% DEF.
Building them
Build for the rest of the kit, not for the cooldown effect. Supports like Kymar, Yumeko or Pheidi generally want high Speed, Accuracy where they apply debuffs, and good survivability. Speed, Impulse and Mercurial raise Speed, while Reflex and Merciless can cut their own cooldowns. Protection or Stoneskin suit buff supports, and Relentless can grant Extra Turns. Damage dealers such as Ninja or Galleus suit Savage, Lethal or Merciless.
Tips
- Make sure key abilities are already on cooldown before you reset them, or the value is wasted.
- Let your main Champions use their strongest skills before the reset, so they can start cycling again at once.
- Use AI presets in wave teams so cooldown skills fire at the right moment.
- In PvP, protect your cooldown Champions, as they are priority targets.
- Check how each reset works: some are full resets, others cut a set number of turns or affect only one target.
